Our family is growing

A big thanks to Debbie for filling in while Kris was on her temporary maternity leave :-)

A big thanks to Debbie for filling in while Kris was on her temporary maternity leave :-)

Hello everyone! We have some very exciting news to share! Our Epic family continues to grow by leaps and bounds! In early May, we welcomed the beautiful Claire Adams (well, technically, Kris and Rob did, but we decided she's OURS!). As a result of Kris's temporary hiatus from traveling, we earned ourselves another couple of family members… Debbie Bosari and Larry Bean! Debbie stepped in on the baritone part for Epic at AC&C and for a show we did Memorial Day weekend in New York.

Just like having more biological babies, our collective hearts get bigger every time we add someone new to the Epic family. And we've been blessed to add a LOT of people to our Epic family this year.

So now to the biggest news of all. During this amazing reigning year, we will be adding not ONE (Claire) but TWO Epic babies to mix!

In October, Shana (Epic bass) and her husband, Andy, will be first-time parents to a baby boy!! We couldn't possibly be more excited for them! Those of you who have seen Shana in action know that she's a dirty, rotten baby stealer! Now she'll have one of her own <3.

Shana has had a great start to her pregnancy… other than the two hours she had to spend in her "Cruella" dress at AC&C!!!

Shana Oshiro and baby Claire

Shana, the baby stealer!

This is the night Shana told us she's expecting! Right before we went out for the performance, we did a belly showdown between super-pregnant Kris and barely-pregnant Shana! Aren't they cute??

A Family Affair

We have had a pretty awesome week, we’ve gotta say! First, and most important, we have a new baby in the Epic family. Earlier tonight, Kris and Rob Adams welcomed 8 lb.+ baby girl, Claire, into our Epic family. We are so blessed and super thrilled that she made a safe and healthy appearance into this world. Kris was a trooper through her final weeks of pregnancy… even keeping up with our gigs until just a few short weeks before giving birth!

We are, however, super happy we did not take Kris on a plane with us last weekend when we headed off to Area 2′s contest and convention! We don’t think the airport people would have been amused by a massively pregnant chick in glitter heels and pink/animal print gowns! So we left Kris home to stay healthy and happy while we went to hang out with our Area 2 sisters for a long weekend.

There were many amazing memories from last weekend, but the best of all was the out-of-this-world talented and sweet and flexible and loving Debbie Bosari. We couldn’t have asked for a more prepared or accommodating fill-in. She nailed our songs, put up with our crazy costuming selections, and patiently tolerated the craziness that often happens behind closed doors (and sometimes not!) in Epic’s universe. Larry kept us in line… sort of… most of the time… well, not really. But it was really cool to have him around :-)

We were super impressed with how organized our hostess chapter, Women of Note, were through the whole weekend. These ladies thought of every detail and put on a heckuva party. Well done, chickies!

We are so proud to share (if ya’ haven’t heard) that Area 2 is sending a whole gaggle of quartets to International this year, including Area champs, Moonstruck. Seriously, these Moonstruck chicks are SERIOUS about what they put up there on that stage. It was such a pleasure to watch. Stunning performance…and we can’t wait to see what they have in store for us at IC&C in Windsor this fall.

We have really enjoyed getting to know the “personalities” of the various choruses in our Area these last couple of years. The chorus contest was beyond impressive and we had the best seats in the house. Congrats to Sounds of the Seacoast for the top finish–and to each and every woman in every chorus that crossed that stage. It’s not easy to get up there and give it your all, but you certainly made for an enjoyable afternoon for your audience!

We had a lot of laughs, as usual, and made some fantastic new memories in Leominster. Our Facebook photo album captures some of the fun, so be sure to check that out. We are lucky chicks and we are having the time of our lives… we may have mentioned this one or two times, but we are incredibly blessed. And after our Area 2 weekend and adding another precious gem to the Epic family, we have even more blessings to count.

XOXO… Epic+ (Chris, Anne, Shana, Kris…and Debbie!)

Epic Cray-Cray!

So, yeah. We’re a little bit nuts. Some of us more than others. No names–Anne Albright. The three non-about-to-pop-a-baby Epics got together this week to make some bari-missing recordings for the lovely and unsuspecting Debbie Bosari, who has graciously agreed to fill in for Epic at Area 2 and a May show we have while Epic bari Kris welcomes baby #2 to our family (we claim the baby… it’s ALL OURS [insert evil laugh]).

Things are going well enough when we move on from Shana’s solo, High Heeled Blues, to Anne’s. Chris blows the pitch and Anne starts:

Umm, that’s how SHANA’s song starts, Anne… not yours.

So then we move on and do Anne’s actual solo, One More Minute. Here’s how that one ended:

So yes… what Shana says at the end. Poor, poor Debbie.

We’re thinking that it would be best if all of our Area 2 sisters could bring sympathy cards to contest. You’ll need to give Debbie strength, love and support during her time of need (a.k.a., filling in with Epic). We really hope Anne doesn’t break her. She’s just so cute. And we don’t have insurance for that.

XOXO :-)

2013 Fairfax Jubilaires Show

Fairfax showWe are SO LUCKY to be a part of such a large and loving barbershop family. Once again, the Fairfax Jubilaires’ annual chapter show was one of the highlights of our year. A new venue this year breathed new life into the program and we were so fortunate to be a part of an impressive line-up. The audiences for both the 2 p.m. show and the 7 p.m. show were so energetic and warm, and the chorus sure knows how to throw a heckuva party at the afterglow!

Friends for Life

One of the highlights of our day, and it was a long time in the making, was singing an 8-part arrangement of “Anything You Can Do, I Can Do Better” with Sweet Adelines quartet Speed of Sound (go LIKE them on Facebook… you won’t be sorry). Arranged by the awesome Larry Wright, the tune is fun and sassy. It basically pits the two quartets against each other in a competition, fighting to sing higher, hold notes longer and sing sweeter! By the end, we decide to get along and deliver a big finish. We had so much fun getting ready for this song. Epic is located in the D.C. and Speed of Sound is not, hailing from waaaaayyyyy south of the Mason-Dixon Line! Thank goodness for learning tracks.

EpicSoSWhen we got together before the show, the rehearsals were energetic and there was an instant chemistry between our two quartets. These chicks are CLASS ACTS. They are ranked well heading into Sweet Adelines’ International Competition in Hawaii (lucky them!) and we expect BIG things for Speed of Sound. They are talented, and they are good, good people. We were honored to share the stage with them and enjoyed just being in the audience as they did their thing on stage.

We also helped pay back to the universe some of the “missed flight” karma that we racked up heading into our own International competition when Shana missed her flight out of D.C. to Florida. This time, Speed of Sound’s baritone, Carter, had flight drama from Florida to D.C.! She sped toward the show site in a taxi from Reagan airport just as the show was starting. Even though Epic was supposed to sing after the intermission, we partnered up with Speed of Sound and we all quickly decided to change spots in the line-up. Epic sang first, buying some more time for Carter. Just as we hit the stage, she arrived and slipped into her costume. They warmed up and hit the stage with energy FAR beyond what a weary air traveler has any right to have! We were so happy to repay the airline gods who got Shana to us in time for IC&C rehearsals by playing a small role in Speed of Sound having a successful show experience.

Da Boys

A quick word about the guys of Da Capo. Anyone in the barbershop world and especially anyone in our neck of the woods knows just how special these guys are. Not only are they amazingly talented but they are great guys. They just posted a fantastic score at prelims and they are headed into their own International contest in Toronto this summer with loaded guns.

We have made a bit of a Fairfax afterglow tradition out of targeting the baritone of the male guest quartet for Anne’s “One More Minute” solo. Last year, Anne sang to Larry Tulley (Boston Common, Our Town) and learned that he would escalate just as fast as she could. This year, Da Capo’s Joe Sawyer was a great sport and played an excellent “straight man” to Anne’s antics. A fine tradition, indeed! We’re trying to get the video pulled together and we’ll share it ASAP.

We owe a deep and heartfelt thanks to our “boys” in the Fairfax Chorus. These guys hired us for their show last year just months after we formed. We barely had a handful of songs together when they contacted us in the fall of 2011 and asked if we would do the 2012 show. To come back again in 2013 is like coming home after a long journey. They believed in Epic before we probably believed in ourselves, and certainly long before we had any bling on our heads. Making them proud is one of our coolest accomplishments to date. We just love them all.

A Great Day to Be Epic

We won’t go on and on, but we will say that it was just a good day to be an Epic. This quartet has already taken us on such a crazy journey and we continue to rack up memorable moments all the time. Yesterday’s shows and afterglow were just really stinkin’ fun. We were relaxed and chilling. The eyelashes went on without drama, Anne’s updo cooperated and everyone had all costume pieces except one black tank top (thank goodness Chris had an extra!). We even had a Starbucks right across the street from the venue!! Oh yes, a good day, indeed.

Shana was working and multitasking, as always (she’s a busy chick). Anne was goofy and made about 100 new friends, as always. Mama Chris brought about $800 worth of food and snacks and took good care of us, as always. And pregnant Kris (Anne introduced her as the “Epic incubator” on stage! LOL) managed NOT to puke right on the evening show stage when the baby decided to shift and make a punching bag out of her stomach. Whew. Good day.

Check out some of our pictures from the day. We’ll add more as we have them! Thanks to all who came, and thanks to those who supported us from a distance!

Didn’t Read The Queen Book–Part I

AHQ manualShortly after being named 2012 Harmony Queens, the members of Epic were handed a comprehensive guide produced by the Association of Harmony Queens, Harmony, Inc.’s organization of past quartet champions. Now, we have to explain something to you. We weren’t totally prepared to be Queens, and we’re still pretty goofy and giddy about the fact that we even have an AHQ handbook in our collective possession! We do have a former Queen in our ranks, but when Kris won with Hot Topic in 2003, she was in college and her main job was to show up in the right outfit and sing the part nobody else wanted to sing! So even with Kris’s patient guidance for the rest of the newbie Epics, we knew we’d probably stumble through our reigning year–with or without a manual to help us out.

Before we even boarded a plane to head back to Virginia after we won, we joked that we’d probably go down in Harmony, Inc., history as the Queen quartet that broke the most rules in the Queen Book. As it turns out, the AHQ manual is more administrative in nature, and really does provide a great map of what role we’ll play at International Contest & Convention this year. But the idea of Epic breaking the rules in a not-entirely-real “Queen Book” is just too funny (for us anyway) to let go!

So, Part I of Epic’s tongue-in-cheek “Didn’t Read the Queen Book” series is that we recently sent in our annual quartet registration fee and, as it turns out, we didn’t need to! Oops! We have extreme form paranoia given that we’ve been known miss deadlines and not return forms in the past (read all about that lovely goof here). So, because it’s time for the annual routine of re-registering as both individuals and quartets in Harmony, Inc., we dutifully sent in our form and our check to keep Epic registered as Epic. A very kind and understanding quartet coordinator, Debbie Staples, touched base to say:

“I’m smiling because one of the perks of Queendom is that you no longer have to register each year.  I will send out a message asking if I need to update anything, or you can just let me know.  That’s it!  You ladies are such a joy to work with – anticipating everything, even things you don’t need to do.  Bless you!

I have put your check back in the mail to you and I’ll keep the registration form because it answers all the questions I would ask for the upcoming year.  So, next year you can just skip the whole thing.”

Well, there you go. Lucky for us, there are very sweet and patient Harmony veterans who will help us each time we break a rule in the Queen Book :-) . We also lean heavily on our sisters in Foreign Exchange, 2011 Harmony Queens–we’ve already pestered them about what songs we’re supposed to be learning for November. Hopefully with Foreign Exchange and others in-the-know keeping an eye on us, we’ll keep our rule breaking to a minimum!

Of course, Anne Albright IS in this quartet… so we might be toast no matter how many watchful eyes attempt to keep us on track!!!

Kids Lovin’ Barbershop

Last year, one of the coolest bonding experiences we had as a quartet was participating in George Mason University’s Potomac Academy for the Arts program. We were brought in by the super-talented and -personable Libby Curtis, who was Anne’s voice instructor in college.

Once again, we were invited to headline “Saturday School” (as it’s known by the kids) for Northern Virginia fourth, fifth and sixth graders. And once again, it proved to be a pretty awesome experience!

We started with a few tunes and, not surprisingly, “One More Minute” was a hit with the kiddos! We moved on to a few videos about the background and history of barbershop harmony singing and some international performances. We talked about how we earned our crowns (sparked by one young participant who asked, “Did you win those crowns at the prom?”) and we explained how the four voice parts blend together to result in the iconic barbershop sound.

Then the magic happened. We got the kids up, broke them into voice parts, and started teaching tags! Please know that part of the reason this situation is so incredibly powerful is that some of these students are living the reality of difficult home situations. Program organizers have shared with us that some of them are nervous about speaking in front of their peers, let along singing (and don’t we all know how THAT feels??)! So when they stand up and start singing barbershop tags, the energy and individual growth is palpable. Beautiful young ladies who soar on the tenor part. Talented young men who carry their own part on BARITONE!!!! This is touching to Epic in so many ways (three of us are vocal instructors for kids) and it’s core to what we want to accomplish as a quartet in the years (and years and years) to come.

Teaching kids barbershop is a core Epic value. We hope to do it in as many ways as possible and as many times as possible. We’re already looking forward to serving as the female teaching quartet for the youth harmony camp at Harmony College East (truly an honor to have been asked). There are a few things in life that give you more energy than you spend, and our Potomac Academy for the Arts experience is definitely one of them!

Love our kiddos! Can’t wait to do it again next year!

2012 Harmony Queens

“What will be even more amazing is when we win a crown and have this as a story…”

Anne Albright in a text from the Emergency Room, 1:31 a.m., Friday

From the moment Epic formed, we have been on a certain trajectory as a quartet. The Universe has had a certain plan for the quartet and often, as individuals, we sort of feel like we’re just along for the ride. From the way we met and formed to the fact that we had our first gig and our first outfit before we even knew our first song, we could all tell that some special things were in store for Epic. Of all the many amazing things we have experienced, none has come close–or is ever likely to come close–to the week we just experienced at the 2012 Harmony, Incorporated, International Convention & Contest (IC&C) in Orlando, Fla. We walked away as the 2012 Harmony Queens–but those who were at the event know we had a few obstacles to overcome in order to have our dream come true. This is probably why it hasn’t really sunk in yet that those beautiful crowns came home with us.

We’d like to share the story now (and it’s going to be LONG), not only because it’s somewhat unbelievable, but because it will always help us remember what turned out to be a magical milestone on this crazy journey.

First we need a bass…

The week had an interesting start because bass Shana missed her flight. She misjudged the reliability of public transportation and her original plane headed to Orlando without her. Luckily, the kind airport folks got her quickly rescheduled to the next departing flight so the trio at least knew she was on her way! She missed a rehearsal and a fun dinner with the Epic fan club, but we were happy to have her in our collective arms later that night.

Airport employees = 10 points

Thursday focus

We cannot share often enough how instrumental our coach, Richard Lewellen, is to our success. Starting bright and early at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, Richard took Epic through a disciplined and focused (but still fun!) series of rehearsals throughout the day. He lovingly guided us in that final day to dig deep and to bring Epic heart and personality to the stage–and nothing more. If you are in a competing quartet, we cannot recommend highly enough doing everything in your power to bring a trusted coach with you to contest. Release yourself to him/her and let him/her pave the way to your goals.

Richard Lewellen = 200 points

We also had our amazing Harmony Queen coach, Lynn Jacobs, on Thursday. We impressed her with the progress we’ve made since our last Skype session with her and we made her cry because she was so proud of us. We are very grateful for her support–even when we were stubborn about sticking to our ballad set/uptune set song order. True love is when you get support from a person who questions your choices but falls on train tracks anyway to show her unconditional love. We’re like the teenagers she wishes she never had!! Just kidding :-) We love her more than we can express!

Lynn = 2 points (the most important 2 points… because those are the ones she wants and deserves!)

Reflexology

We are also very grateful to Gene Butterfield, a lifetime barbershopper and gifted reflexologist. During our final rehearsal Thursday, he drove from his home a little more than an hour away to help us get centered and address problem issues like breathing, anxiety and other woes. It was relaxing and fun. Kris may have a newly discovered talent in this area! It was fun and relaxing and just what we needed!

Gene Butterfield = 25 points

Let the games begin!

Now to the part about which you may be the most curious. How in the world did Anne end up in the Emergency Room just hours before the contest?

On Thursday after an intense rehearsal, the Epic gang headed downstairs for lunch. Anne often needs time to let the new information from a session sink in, so she headed to her room for some down time. Her fatal mistake, we later learned, was ordering a spinach and salmon salad via room service. It never quite settled right  and she decided after dinner that she would skip the Queens’ show and get a good night of sleep. Later, when Chris and Richard returned to the room, she was sick and sharing that the stabbing pain in her abdomen felt just like the time she had terrible food poisoning. She tried to sleep and get comfortable for the next several hours, but she was getting no relief. At shortly before midnight, Chris visited the front desk of the hotel and requested the paramedics. They loaded her up on a stretcher and headed toward the ambulance waiting in front of the hotel. Meanwhile, Chris is practically sobbing to the paramedics: “Please give her some help soon! Don’t make her wait! We have a big singing competition tomorrow and she will be so mad if we can’t do it. She’s worked really hard. Please take care of my girl!”

Anne went to a nearby hospital for fluids and anti-nausea medicine. She finally made it back to the hotel room by 4 a.m. and quickly passed out from exhaustion.

Ambulance guys (who happened to be hot) and ER staff = 50 points

Wake-up call

When Chris and Richard stirred at 6 a.m. Friday, they knew immediately that Anne was in no condition to get up and start getting ready. Originally, Epic had planned to be fully dressed and ready for warm-ups at 8:30 a.m. We were slated to be contestant #1. Richard called the amazing Jacquie Jensen for guidance and she offered to consult with the judging panel and let Epic sing first after intermission. Thank you, God! Two extra hours!

Contest and judging administrators = 150 points

Heroic effort

We went into teamwork mode at that point. Richard and John Rector (Kris’s dad) went to hunt down a pharmacy to fill Anne’s anti-nausea prescription. The rest of Epic got ready early so we could help Anne with her hair and makeup when she woke up. So many of our friends and family helped shuttle stockings and fake eyelashes and name badges and other supplies between quartet members’ rooms… and were basically at the ready to do whatever we needed.

Family and friends at our command = 50 points

And most heroic of all … Anne dragged her poor, sick body out of bed, took some meds for her continued abdominal pain and started warming up in the shower.

Anne’s perseverance, Round #1 = 225 points

Somehow or another, we went through “the pattern” and landed on the contest stage. We were all so concerned about Anne that we didn’t stress much about our pending hit on stage. In the 15 minutes in the final ready room, we sang just a line or two, practiced our walk-on, and then huddled up for a very long and very heartfelt prayer. Listening to Shana’s smooth and calming voice, we invited God into our hearts to protect and guide us in reaching our goal to touch our audience.

God = Well, we can’t give God points. But He deserves them all.

Those moments on stage were so “alive.” We stayed very connected to each other as a quartet and the brief glances among ourselves conveyed the unspoken message that things were going well. The energy of the audience was so energizing, and when we walked off stage, we collapsed into each others’ arms and the waterworks started flowing!

Supportive Harmony, Inc., audience = 300 points

Round #2… we made the finals!

After our semi-finals set, Anne walked back to the room to rest and have some saltines (and more meds). In that brief span of time, as all the adrenaline ran out of her system, her body began to sort of shut down. She was shaking, exhausted and she was about to spike a fever. She tried to sleep but again was in too much pain. As it was almost time to start getting ready for the finals, the poor thing tortured herself with a tepid bath to cool down. We wish you could have seen the fierceness behind those eyes. She was going to make it to that stage again or die trying!

Again, we focused more on Anne than last-minute fixes or clean-ups. There wasn’t really too much time to get worried about what would happen on stage. So we once again used our warm up room to laugh (the lovely topic this time was farting…don’t ask) and to pray.

Anne fierceness, Round #2 = 200 points

The big reveal

Epic poured a lot of our pre-contest energy into the big surprise we had in store for Harmony, Inc.–Cruella De Vil. We actually came up with this idea when we were driving back to the airport after the Area 2 contest in April. We had just qualified for Orlando and Shana said, “We should do some sort of Disney song… you know, something sassy.” Kris and Chris, the two barberbrats in Epic, looked at each other and said, “Wouldn’t it be crazy to do Vocal Spectrum’s Cruella?”

The wheels were in motion. We called upon our talented coach to help us re-voice some of the trickier spots in the brilliant David Wright arrangement, including the tag. His solutions were perfect and truly positioned Epic to be successful with the song.

Richard’s music theory magic = 50 points

Many of you have asked about the Cruella set outfits. Let’s just say that our tenor loves to shop and will go to great lengths to find a good deal and hunt down the four necessary sizes! We also have a talented seamstress in the family with Epic mom Debbie… she made the boleros for us to get the exact look we were after!

Chris Lewellen loves to shop = 25 points

Debbie loves us and made boleros = 50 points

The call-off

Ladies and gents, we can’t even begin to explain what we were feeling during the call-off. The trip to the stage, the crowning, the flowers, the medals, the fanfare… it was magical and stunning. One minute we were Epic, contest survivors, and the next minute we were Epic, 2012 Harmony Queens. We are glad there are pictures to prove that it actually happened because we don’t really remember much of it.

After the medalist fanfare, some thank yous, a very special welcome by the Harmony Queens and lots of pictures, we shared a few quiet moments with the incredibly classy chicks of Foreign Exchange, the 2011 Harmony Queens. We are forever connected to our sister Queens and we are grateful for such a warm and thoughtful welcome from them. They even hunted down Mickey Mouse crown necklaces for us so we would have a special keepsake from the place where we won. Isn’t that incredible?

Foreign Exchange = 75 points

Love and hugs from the Harmony Queens = 100 points

Saturday fun

We were up early on Saturday, as instructed, to get ready for our photo session with the talented Betsy Groner. We donned our amazing crowns and headed to Downtown Disney for some super-cute pictures. Anne nearly got us kicked out by security a time or two, so she was certainly starting to feel better.

If anyone wants to give Anne a quick tutorial on the meaning of the phrase, “Please stay off the stage,” feel free!

Betsy and a fun photo session = 50 points

Next, we rushed off to the chorus contest and, though we missed the mic tester chorus (boo!) because our photos ran a little late, we made it back in time for the first competitor. They introduced us (awww… awesome!) as we walked into the hall and we took our FRONT ROW seats to settle in and enjoy the contest. What an amazing vantage point to witness up close all of the joy and emotion on each competitor’s face! It was awesome. Once again, Foreign Exchange took great care of us… even making sure we had lunch at the break. We love them!

Many folks at the contest thanked us for hopping up to greet all of the chorus contestants as they walked off the stage and back into the audience. Here’s the thing–it was 100% our pleasure. We received so much love and support from the audience the day before that we simply felt compelled to give a small portion of it back. Plus, there was an amazing energy that came from those beautiful women who had just accomplished their contest goals… we were soaking up every minute of it.

Energy of the chorus competitors = 250 points

A night to celebrate

The Saturday night parade of champs was so fun for us. We loved being giddy and goofy with our fellow chorus and quartet medalists backstage and we especially loved that nearly 25 of Epic’s family and friends were in the audience to see us perform.

For those who weren’t there, we want to quickly share a few thanks once again:

  • Harmony, Inc., and especially our home team of Area 2
  • Our coaches, Lynn and Richard
  • Our contest song arrangers: Tom Gentry, Clay Hine, Nancy Bergman and David Wright
  • Our adopted chorus, the Fairfax Jubilaires of the Barbershop Harmony Society. We love you guys!
  • Our amazing husbands (Gregg, Richard, Andy and Rob) and our babies (Morgan, Bryn, Jack, Ainsley, William, and furry baby Kuma)
  • All of the people who supported us financially through our fundraisers and benefit concerts…. thank you for being a part of our dream!

All of the people behind the scenes who made this happen = 43 points

Wrapping it up

We could go on and on about how full our hearts are after the 2012 IC&C, but the bottom line is that we are just so humbled and grateful to represent Harmony, Inc., in this historic way. We love this organization down deep in our bones and we’re truly only at the beginning of this journey. We have big plans to spread the sisterhood of Harmony, Inc., everywhere we go. We are beginning the foundation building that must happen for us to start a chapter in this expansion area, and we will begin laying tracks for our first CD in early 2013.

It all adds up to 1855 points, but to us, it simply adds up to one amazing dream come true. We love you all.

The final countdown

We’re not sure about how other quartets feel right before a big contest, but we’re finding that peace and a strange stillness sort of settles on Epic in the days and weeks leading into a competition. At least that’s what we’ve found in the couple of times we’ve been fortunate to be heading to a contest. As we’ve been counting down for our FIRST International contest, we’ve kept up with our usual busy gig schedule because that’s what we love. We probably haven’t had as many focused rehearsals as some and we’re aren’t really striving to hit some sort of super-human peak on stage. We’re pretty comfortable with where we’re at and that’s all we hope to share with the audience. That’s really what we’re most excited about…sharing a piece of the Epic universe with the amazing Harmony, Inc., audience. We have some fun surprises in store.

We’re not stressing about the competition part, and we are really excited about the event itself. We enjoy traveling with each other and the prep work is always fun. Earlier this week, we shipped some Epic supplies to ourselves at the hotel and we have received some blingy new t-shirts to wear around in Orlando. Have we shared yet that we have 20 people (20!!!) traveling with the quartet to Florida to enjoy the experience with us? Parents, siblings, friends, kids…. it’s quite a gaggle!

We did our final long rehearsal on Sunday and worked on polishing a few minor things. We see each other one more time before we board a plane… just for a couple of hours and a handful of run-throughs. We are so incredibly grateful that Richard Lewellen has patiently and calmly shepherded us through this preparation process. Maybe that’s why we’re so calm… he sure makes it easy to focus on what matters.

So with just one week to go, we’re ready to rock-and-roll. We’re looking forward to seeing our Harmony, Inc., family and our Area 2 sisters.
